Sustainable transport

At E. van Wijk, we are continuously improving our sustainability goals. Included within these goals are actions in the areas of the environment, digital innovation, employee development and corporate social responsibility.

We achieve our environmental goals through our Lean and Green policy and by optimizing sustainable transport with zero emission transport, electrification and sustainable fuels.

To achieve its sustainable ambitions, E. van wijk has taken concrete steps. For example, 10 electric DAF trucks have been purchased. Furthermore, a solar power system of 2,800 solar panels was put into operation in 2024. The power generated will be stored in a 4.3MWh battery system.

Using renewable fuels is an effective method to achieve sustainable transportation. One effective method to reduce CO2 is to use biodiesel. On the other hand, we offer customers a CO2 reduction program with the use of HVO fuel. This is diesel made from waste vegetable oils.

Offering sustainable transport. That is one of the five strategic pillars of E. van Wijk Logistics. Optimal loading, driving with modern trucks and on sustainable fuels, and electrification are just some of the means by which we can achieve this goal.

Through these initiatives we have already achieved three Lean and Green stars. Lean and Green is the leading CO2 reduction program in the logistics sector. E. van Wijk Logistics has been a participant in the Lean and Green program since July 2, 2015.

E. van Wijk Logistics is socially involved in schools, among other things. As a company, we realize that children are the future and that education lays the foundation for their development. Therefore, we support schools in various activities such as fields days and regularly invite them to our premises in Giessen, in order to give them an insight into what (sustainable) transport is all about. We believe it is important to take responsibility and contribute to a positive learning environment for future generations.

With the rapid advances in digitalization, it is crucial to keep our IT systems up-to-date. E. van Wijk Logistics is actively modernizing applications and optimizing processes. The digital systems in our trucks also contribute to the sustainable transport we can offer our customers.

On June 5, 2024, E. van Wijk Logistics was the first in the municipality of Altena to receive the Groene Pluim (Green Plume). The Groene Pluim is an incentive award for companies that make a positive commitment to sustainability, circularity and social policy.

Through initiatives in the field of sustainable transport and corporate social responsibility, E. van Wijk Logistics is one of the 76 leaders in the Netherlands with regard to sustainable business.
